This project involved stripping of leadwork to the projecting canopy around the perimeter of the building at high level. After stripping, it was found that there was significant repairs required to the substructure brickwork and render. Once the canopy had been repaired utilising specialist repair techniques, the canopy was again covered in code 6 leadwork, with the render repaired, the modellions repaired and replaced and the render work redecorated.
Both ourselves and the client are very pleased with the final result.
NPC have recently been working on a new nursery/ breakfast club in the grounds of Warden Hill Junior School in Luton. As part of the project the children from Little People's nursery wished to include a time capsule. Within the capsule, they have included drawings of how they see the future and letters to the children who will open it. There will be a plaque on the wall stating both the location of the capsule under the ground and the date that it is to be opened. Children from both the nursery and the school were present to help bury the time capsule along with a local newspaper, who after putting a copy of the days paper into the capsule took photographs for a short piece to feature in an up and coming issue.
The contract to refurbish the 1960's health clinic was awarded to Newport Pagnell Construction Ltd following a competitive tendering exercise, which then necessitated a very prompt start on site as the project had to be completed by 20th March 2009, to coincide with the closure of the client's end of year accounts.
The refurbishment of Water Eaton Health Clinic took place over a 23 week period and was split into 4 main phases, so that the building could remain open to patients during the course of the work.
The main thrust of the project was the complete internal reconfiguration of the central core of the building to create a new larger light and airy patient waiting room with two internal lightwells, which is serviced by a new reception desk and supporting administration office. During the reconfiguration of the central core a new steel frame on pad foundations was incorporated into the new layout, to be used as part of a future first floor expansion of the clinic.
The refurbishment works included the upgrading and provision of new surgeries, a multi functional meeting rooms, dental surgery, upgraded patient and staff toilets, a new entrance lobby with disabled toilet and an architectural canopy to create a focus to the clinic entrance.
Each phase of the work included alteration and extension of power, lighting and plumbing and heating services which required very careful planning and co-ordination with the clinic’s manager to ensure that patient services were not disrupted.
The client is very pleased with the refurbished clinic which was completed on time and within budget. The clinic was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor on Milton Keynes on Thursday 7th May 2009.
