The project involved the building of a new extension and the internal refurbishment of the existing bistro and sales area. The construction works were completed in phases as the building had to remain in operation during the course of the work to maintain the charities’ income stream.
The new bistro extension was built on trench fill foundation with a steel frame and an insulated beam and block suspended floor slab. The external walls of the extension are formed using upvc double glazed framed panels which included two pairs of double doors that lead onto a new patio and garden at the front of the building. The new flat roof above the extension is fully insulated and waterproofed using a Langley roofing felt system to give the Client a 20 year roof guarantee. Internal works included structural alterations, installation of a new WC, new flooring and redecoration throughout. On the services side, new lighting was installed in all the sales areas, the fire alarm system was upgraded and extended and the existing heating system was altered and extended.
Externally the existing roof covering was replaced with the insulated Langley roofing system together with new rooflights and new upvc windows. The extensive eaves and fascias to the existing building were clad with white upvc panels to give a clean bright maintenance free finish.
This contract required close co-ordination with the staff and companions at Emmaus to ensure the works progressed smoothly and the project was completed on time and within budget.
The Client is very happy with the refurbishment of the building which was officially opened by Jerry Hall on 17th June 2009
